There is something captivating about the idea of a fresh start enhanced with new clothes and new school supplies. September presents an opportunity to bravely welcome a fresh set of challenges; to step excitedly into the learning they provide.
The new “school year” doesn’t have to be just for kids. I love the idea of harnessing this promise of a fresh start for myself and for my clients. There’s no need to wait for January to explore the next learning edge for ourselves, to set the next set of goals.
September invites a swell of energy with its bright-blue skies and breezy air; like riding an ocean wave. These final four months are like the gathering, growing swells; purposely propelling us towards progress and completion before we are set down in the sand at the shore.
There’s plenty of time to establish a new, positive, life-affirming habit, say: green smoothies; a 3-mile morning walk; or beginning the day with gratitude.
There’s plenty of time to learn something new or take on a brand-new project, perhaps: begin learning a new language – French or Spanish; sign-up for Salsa or Tango lessons; tackle the piles hiding in the closets; train for a 10K or half-marathon; organize your finances or recipes, whatever it is you want (or need) to do to feel complete and satisfied with 2014.
Some of the end-of-the-year, ocean-wave energy I’ll be riding includes:
- Hosting a day-long workshop – Happy, Healthy, Wealthy You! – with two friends of mine, in October. New learning, absolutely!
- A meditation class; diving deeper into this practice has been on my “want to-do” list for a while, and a class is a perfect way for me to get focused and pay special attention to a particular area of my life.
- Painting the basement bathroom; this room has been on my “it-drives-me-crazy-every-time-I-look-at-it” list since…well, since we bought our house.
What new, fresh start will you give yourself – beginning now?
What project will you take on?
What is something new you want to learn?
What new, positive, life-affirming habit will you start?
I’d love to hear what you are up to – not only is it inspiring – it is a great way to gather some fresh ideas for future lists – for me, for you, for others. Please share on the Time To Thrive facebook page.
